23 February 2007

It is that time of year again folks. Voting for the Annual Milbloggie Awards is now open so get over and vote for your favorite Miblogs. I was pleased to find that there are some outstanding nominees in each of the categories, making the voting very difficult this year, but that’s no excuse not to exercise your civic duty and VOTE. The polls close on February 27th.

Sgt Hook out.

I’d like to clean up my sidebar a bit by re-organizing how the archives are listed, but I don’t know how to do what I have in mind. What I would like to do is keep the monthly list of archives for the current year, and just have previous years listed by year if that makes sense. Anyone out there know if that is even possible, and if so how a rock like me can swing it? Leave a comment or shoot me an email, and thanks in advance for not laughing, too hard. Sgt Hook out.

I’m under attack, 50+ spam comments in the last couple of hours. It’s time I plan a little surge of my own. Sgt Hook out.

6 February 2007

I’ve been invited, and have accepted, to be on one of the panels at the 2007 Milblog Conference scheduled for May 5th in our nation’s capital. I consider it an absolute honor to have been invited and am humbled to find myself among such esteemed company as Bill Roggio and Bouhammer with the famed Matt of Blackfive as our moderator.

I had planned on holding a bake sale or car wash here to help fund the trip so as not to dip into the family budget, but with friends like the ones I have, it doesn’t look like I’ll need to make cupcakes. I am again humbled and glad that I’ll be able to participate in the conference, hope to see you there. Sgt Hook out.

23 January 2007

I don’t know if I’ll get to a computer at all today given what my schedule looks like, but a quick check on the polls this morning shows that A Soldier’s Perspective has surged yet again and Stryker Brigade News is solidly in second place. Two outstanding Milblogs that I’m honored to even be on the same list with, never mind chasing them in the polls.

This post is scheduled to publish at noon today when the voting ends over at You Served. I’d like to thank the folks at the VA Mortgage Center Blog for sponsoring the Best Milblog competition.

And I really want to thank ALL of you who took the time to cast a vote and spread the word, I’m truly humbled, and quite frankly amazed at how well Sgt Hook did, THANK YOU. A bake sale and car wash will be planned in the future to cover that plane ticket. Sgt Hook out.

You were expecting a caption contest perhaps? Sorry folks, not this week. Today your challenge, should you accept it, is to propel Sgt Hook into the winner’s circle for the Best Milblog Contest hosted by the VA Mortgage Center Blog, You Served. Voting ends tomorrow at noon so get over there and vote!

Yes, I may be down by some 200 votes behind an outstanding Milblog (never mind that there are several contributors over there), and there are only 24 hours left in the competition, but listen up soldiers! There is no such thing as a mission impossible so get out the vote, families, friends, enemies, and librarians. Send Hook to Washington today!

VOTE HERE

Thank you. Sgt Hook out.

UPDATE: I want to thank all who have voted and helped pushed me to near the front of the pack. It seems I’m in second place a good 150 200 votes behind a surging Soldier’s Perspective. Voting ends on the 23rd so if you haven’t yet voted, I ask that you again consider casting your vote for Sgt Hook. Thank you.

That’s right, I need your votes to send me to our nation’s capital. No, I’m not running for office, but I am planning to attend this year’s Milblog Conference and have just found a way to finance the trip without disrupting the family budget. It seems I’ve been nominated for Best Military Blog being contested over at the VA Mortgage Center Blog and a cash award is in store for the winning Milblog.

So I ask that you consider voting for Sgt Hook and thereby help fund my trip to this year’s Milblog Conference and rest assured that any winnings above the cost of the trip will go to the Fisher House, not to bailing out any unruly attendees. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your vote.Sgt Hook out.

In view of a recent tendency to identify characters in fiction with real people, it seems proper to state that there are no real people in this volume: both the characters and their names are ficticious. Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
