12 December 2007

I was finally able to get a call through, all is well. Power has been restored and the merry band of pirates are having a grand time of living in the ice age.

Some of our families are not so lucky, however, and are now staying in shelters and hotels in the area. It’s incredibly hard for soldiers to be so far away when their family is in crisis back home. Any shaman out there care to assist with thawing the midwest? I know a group of soldiers who’d be much appreciative for the help. Sgt Hook out.

  1. Glad you were able to touch base with home. Just saw on the Weather Channel that it’s becoming a “rain event”, so maybe the worst is over and the melt is starting. Sure hope so!

  4. Don’t worry - help is on the way. My boss is heading that way today to meet with customers. Takin’ some of the “brass” with him.

All that hot air? Yeah, they should be melted and feeling spring like breezes by Friday, max……

  5. Tammi, LOL!

Hope they thaw out soon! The south has been beat up by warm weather… I am trying to send it their way!

  6. I’ve been thankful I no longer like in NW Arkansas, although I think they got spared this go-round. I remember one Christmas I drove down to Texas to see my family, and my return was delayed because of an ice storm. The convenience store/gas station I would always stop at in McAlester, OK, when I stopped, I learned had just gotten their water and power back. If no water, then no “facilities”… While the roads were passable by the time I returned, the trees and powerlines along the side of the road were still coated in ice, and once I reached I-40, I saw several vehicles that had slid off the road, either into the center median, or off to the side. I have much sympathy for those who are having to deal with this. Hopefully, it will all be over soon, with power and other essentials coming back online.

  7. Glad your family is safe, and prayers out for all that have been affected by the wicked weather. We had some ice, but nothing like some parts of the country.

  9. TheJewelryLady said, “So much for global warming.” LOL Yeah, I think Wisconsin didn’t get that memo as my kids were home from school on Tuesday because of the sleet/snow/ice.

In view of a recent tendency to identify characters in fiction with real people, it seems proper to state that there are no real people in this volume: both the characters and their names are ficticious. Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
