18 March 2007

I have always been in awe of America’s “Greatest Generation” for not only what they did for this country and my way of life, but for how they changed the world. If not for the men and women who bravely battled evil in 1941, we would not enjoy the lives that we do today, and Europeans certainly would not have known over 60 years of peace on their streets. I can’t help but wonder, as we watch the hit T.V. show, American Idol, and phone in our votes for said idol, just what music Iraqis and Afghans are listening to and who they might phone in their votes for American Idol if given the opportunity?

  1. You have my vote Sgt Hook for yet again showing Americans who our true “idols” are, the heroic, self-sacrficing men and women of the Unites States Armed Forces!God Bless them and God Bless America.

  2. Bagpipes! You had to have bagpipes! Where’s my Kleenex box when I need it. Next you will play Amazing Grace on bagpipes. My heart swells with pride thinking of this awesome fighting force we have that does so much more than break and take. Good job Sgt. Hook!!

  4. Hook,

I’ll add the comment I made a month ago when I attended the reactivation of the unit I served with in Nam. The book was mistitled. It should have been “The Greatest of Their Generation”. I say this because, as I have met vets of every generation and as I meet some of today’s soldiers through my daughter’s military service, I find in each generation that those who serve are the greatest of their generation. These patriots all derserve our thanks and admiration. They truly are the best their generation can offer. Too all who serve today to protect our freedom and extend to others, thank you and God bless each of you.

  5. I am always amazed at those who will stand for our Freedoms and Liberties. Those are America’s true heroes. They are not the pampered, narcissistic individuals that we constantly read and/or see in the media. Instead, it is our warriors who risk all to keep us free.

Thx Sgt. Hook. Thx again for reminding us about the true heroes.

  6. I’ll vote for the “idols” you showed any day, over those on television. Thanks for the great video!

  7. As I sat here watching those pictures, I thought of how we here at home know nothing about what our kids are doing over there so far away. I can not imagine what my son is going thru right now, fighting for the freedom of the Iraqi’s. I was torn at first about this surge, more of them getting killed, but if it takes more to get it over, then do it. Thanks so much for your blog, it is truely a great job you are doing for our military kids and for us at home to know the true story. Thanks again Sgt. Hook!

  17. Oh, Hook, you really got me today! I haven’t heard that song in ages and you matched it so beautifully with your pics. My mind is so full at all times with thoughts of my son in Afghanistan. Seeing this just makes me feel so full of love for all of our soldiers and those whom they are helping. Thank you- you’ve set the tone for my day!

  21. That song alone has always brought tears to my eyes…the images stay with you, the expressions on people’s faces, everything there…the image of the soldier, so large yet soft looking, sitting next to a little kid in red, so small and innocent. The image of a soldier carrying a wounded soldier on his shoulders, that stays with me too.

  27. Yesterdays passing of the declaration to surrender by the Democratic led house betrayed each and everyone of the individuals shown in this video. I certainly hope those who voted for Democrats this last November are damn proud of themselves.

  28. Thank you so much for this. I hope you don’t mind, but I am going to post this on my site. I will of course give you full credit with links back. Thank you again. You can’t put that many good Americans in one place and not get something good out of it. All the best to you and yours!

  29. Got it in one, Sarge!
Ah, the Pipes, I love the Pipes. Always have, always will. Back in the day, at pay formation, we had a Piper in front of the Airborne Battalion I was in, as we passed in review.
Sigh … I’d give just about anything to be thirty-five years younger and be able to stand with these outstanding younguns. Alas …

  34. A tribute to the “new greatest generation.’ Beautiful. With these sons and daughters of American, our nation’s future is bright.

  35. Great! A whole new batch of alcoholic obodys telling boring war storys at the bar and whining they dont get enough kudos from the people the were defending while they were “over there”. I can’t wait. The second I hear somebody say they are a vet I want to take them outside and kick their face into the pavement. I just did some fucking asshole from desert storm 1 last week.

  36. Thanks so much for your blog, it is truely a great job you are doing for our military kids and for us at home to know the true story. It was very touching to see our very brave & coragous young men & women over there doing there very difficult jobs. And seeing the local citizens especially the youngsters out in the streets smiling & interacting with our military. Thanks again Sgt. Hook, please keep up the great work!

  37. Re: comment by “John”. Your tiny fanstasy driven mind has consumed you. You wouldn’t make a wart on a soldiers ass (male or female). Go back to your Spiderman comic book and leave the grown ups alone.

    Comment by doug — 29 March 2007 @ 1851

  38. It is obvious from your production that you know the heart and soul of the people you honor. I also recognize the ignorance of some of the comments that you have received from people who have no fortitude and don’t acknowledge the sacrifice and courage that our military members have made and are continuing to make on a daily basis. Those are the same people who are trying to tear up the fabric of this country and are working to make the world a more dangerous place every day. Thank you Sgt. Hook for keeping the soldiers in our hearts and minds and for honoring them as they should be. They are counting on our help to remain strong.

    Comment by JAY — 29 March 2007 @ 2145

  39. American Idols

How dare the Democrats play political games with our troops. I am tired of listening to the likes of Pelosi and Reid spouting their high and mighty rhetoric against the President and the war to bring freedom to the people of Iraq. Their cowardly game…

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
