UPDATE: I want to thank all who have voted and helped pushed me to near the front of the pack. It seems I’m in second place a good 150 200 votes behind a surging Soldier’s Perspective. Voting ends on the 23rd so if you haven’t yet voted, I ask that you again consider casting your vote for Sgt Hook. Thank you.

That’s right, I need your votes to send me to our nation’s capital. No, I’m not running for office, but I am planning to attend this year’s Milblog Conference and have just found a way to finance the trip without disrupting the family budget. It seems I’ve been nominated for Best Military Blog being contested over at the VA Mortgage Center Blog and a cash award is in store for the winning Milblog.

So I ask that you consider voting for Sgt Hook and thereby help fund my trip to this year’s Milblog Conference and rest assured that any winnings above the cost of the trip will go to the Fisher House, not to bailing out any unruly attendees. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your vote.Sgt Hook out.

  3. Dang, I already voted, and pushed for Iraq War Today who is donating winnings. But I’d love to see you at the conference. I’m planning to attend.

  4. The fact that you, as your official persona, can’t boondoggle a TDY out of this saddens me to no end. I admire your integrity, but it somehow seems so wrong.

  5. Timmer, I would never dream of boondoggling a TDY out of this, it somehow seems so wrong to me.

  6. Hook…all’s not lost.

Seems that voting’s restricted to one per IP address….SO….if you’ve voted from home, but not from work it would appear that you could conceivably vote yet again.

I still favor sharing Hook with 10 of your closest email friends who don’t regularly read him…send them to a couple of Jackie O’Shea posts…a few from “The Station” and several pasts caption contests and not only will Hook regain the lead, but get a few more readers in the deal.

    Just a thought all!

See you on the high ground…

P.S. I feel kinda dirty advocating ballot box stuffing. Is this the way Democrats feel all the time? Yechhh….Ms. Pelosi, could you please pass me the bleach.

In view of a recent tendency to identify characters in fiction with real people, it seems proper to state that there are no real people in this volume: both the characters and their names are ficticious. The names or designations of any military units are ficticious. There are no living people nor existing military units presented in this book. -Ernest Hemingway

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
