UPDATE: Bill Faith has some wonderfully inspirational photos depicting just how one goes about cleaning up “the Bile.”

From A Small Town Veteran who himself is a Patriot Guard…

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson was laid to rest with full military honors, including a 3-aircraft CH-47 flyby, on Friday 19 May 2006 in a peaceful little cemetery just outside the quiet little town of Shumway, Illinois. May he rest in peace.

The slime showed up as promised but left before the funeral began. Looking toward its allocated location from the church entrance nothing was to be seen but a sea of American flags and American patriots. Nothing was to be heard except the engine and rotor noise of an Illinois State Police helicopter, there, apparently, to protect the slime from big bad scary bikers. The helicopter left almost immediately after the slime did, possibly to guarantee its safe passage out of the area. After the slime left, the Patriot Guard Riders in attendance held their stations till nearly the end of the funeral, then regrouped to provide an alley of flags along the short drive from the church to the adjoining cemetery, then regrouped again to help provide an appropriate backdrop for the graveside services.

In my entire life (I turned 56 today) I cannot recall ever being associated with a finer group of people than the ones I spent my morning with. Click here to learn more about Patriot Guard Riders, then please give serious thought to joining this fine organization. You don’t have to be a biker, or a veteran, or anything else in particular to join. You just have to care. You do care, don’t you?

Well done Bill, I’m proud of you and the Patriot Guard Riders. Rest in Peace CW2 Donaldson, I’ll see you on Fiddler’s Green. Sgt Hook out.

  3. I didn’t try to track down information on the other’s who went down with CW2 Donaldson but I think I’m correct in saying that the only way a soldier is buried these days without PGR present is if the family wants it that way. Nationwide membership was somewhere over 33,000 the last I looked. I know from the PGR discussion board that we picked up several new members, including a number on active duty, as a result of the Donaldson mission.

  4. I’ve posted some pictures from Tuesday nights escort mission and Friday’s funeral mission at http://www.smalltownveteran.net/posts/2006/05/goodbye_to_a_he_1.html. I’d missed the fact those CH-47s were in a Missing Man formation till I looked at my pictures.

  9. The only pre-requisite to joining the PGR is: RESPECT.

    * You don’t have to ride a motorcycle but if you do, it does not have to be a Harley.

    * You don’t have to be a Veteran, but if you are… thank you for serving.

    * Please feel free to review the PGR website.

    * Read the PGR mission statement. If you agree, please sign up. Freedom isn’t free…but membership is.

Simply put…We are Americans doing the right thing for the right reason.
I look forward to welcoming you to our ranks.

  12. The first time I heard of your group was when I read about how you all turned your backs to the protesters at a funeral in N.D. and I can only say Thank you very much!! It is about time someone stands united against everything this group of wackos believe! To show such disrespect for anyone who sacrificed their own life for scum like this is totally unamerican. Keep up the good work!! And also a reminder to others to ALWAYS say Thank You to EVERY vet you ever meet for a job well done.

In view of a recent tendency to identify characters in fiction with real people, it seems proper to state that there are no real people in this volume: both the characters and their names are ficticious. The names or designations of any military units are ficticious. There are no living people nor existing military units presented in this book. -Ernest Hemingway

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
