28 April 2006

Yes, I turn 42 today, and no, I don’t want for much; the health of my family and security of my nation is all. So today, I wish that every American watch United 93 and honor the courage of those brave men and women who perished that day.

I wish that we never have to know another September 11th, and that we as a nation will have the fortitude to prevent it from happening again. I wish that the remembrance of the heroes of United Flight 93 is enough to rekindle the American spirit and patriotism in the many of us who seem to have lost it, or forgotten the meaning of it (click on the graphic below to meet those heroes).

I know that I’m planning on playing hookie (no pun intended) and catching the matinee with the lovely and talented and downrighst sexy Mrs. Hook later today. How about you? Sgt Hook out.

  7. Happy Birthday, Sgt Hook!

As for United Flight 93, many of us who lived/worked in DC, NYC, and PA on September 11, 2001 just can’t watch that movie simply because it’s still too close to home for us–we remember the pain and horror of that day all too clearly.

However, that’s not to say I don’t encourage anyone else to watch it; I’ve heard more good things than bad about the movie, so that gives me hope Hollywood didn’t screw the story up too badly.

  18. Happy Birthday!

By the way, both Sgt Mom and I saw the matinee showing of United 93 today, and each of us blogged our perceptions/reactions over at The Daily Brief.

It’s well worth seeing, for those who can. For those who saw it all first-hand, it might be too much.

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
