Meet yet another one of your Soldiers, Specialist Vihelm Heerup. SPC Heerup is from Pheonix, Arizona and is currently serving in Iraq with C Company, 445th Civil Affairs Battalion.

He’s not your average 19-year-old Army Reserve Soldier.

Spc. Vilhelm Heerup is playing a key role as a civil affairs specialist with Company C, 445th Civil Affairs Battalion, in Balad, Iraq. He is one of the main evaluators on a number of high-dollar water-treatment projects funded by coalition forces to bring clean water to residents of Diyala Province in northern Iraq.

“He’s doing the work of a senior noncommissioned officer,” said 1st Lt. Dustin Greenhill, the civilian/military affairs officer for 1-8 Combined Arms Battalion, 4th Infantry Division.

Heerup joined the Army Reserve shortly after graduating from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2004. He was trained as a civil affairs specialist at Fort Bragg, N.C., and came to Iraq with his Army Reserve unit last year.

“We use our civilian specialties and apply them other places,” Heerup said. “It’s one of the cool things about civil affairs.

Heerup has relished his newfound responsibilities overseeing construction projects that often run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Good job Soldier, I’m proud of you. Sgt Hook out.

  1. I would like to see a news-type program that showed nothing but stories like this. If the asstards in the MSM had a clue, they would realize how insanely popular it would be. Half the country would want to watch it! Thanks, Sarge, and keep up the good work!

In view of a recent tendency to identify characters in fiction with real people, it seems proper to state that there are no real people in this volume: both the characters and their names are ficticious. The names or designations of any military units are ficticious. There are no living people nor existing military units presented in this book. -Ernest Hemingway

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
