29 March 2006

I have it on good authority that tonight’s episode of The Unit on CBS at 2100 Eastern will be outstanding.

Imagine Mexican Drug Minister Salazar arrives in Los Angeles for high level discussions with the D.E.A., and the Unit has reliable intelligence that a Mexican cartel plans to assassinate him on U.S. soil. Of course their mission to protect him becomes even more complex when Salazar’s family is kidnapped. In addition to protecting the dignitary, now, the Unit must find and save his wife and two children before they are murdered. Meanwhile, a former Unit member’s wife tries to lure away Unit members by enticing their wives with the prospect of big money to be made in the private sector.

I wouldn’t want to miss this one. Sgt Hook out.

  1. I gotta admit, your right. Its a very good show. Gritty, rough edged just about enough to get a “real” feelin.

  2. I don’t know. I watched the first episode and thought…not bad. Then the second episode lost me. I seriously got bored with it. Then the 3rd episode I didn’t watch but the BF (he’s got the SF bonifides to review) did and he said it twern’t all that great. But on YOUR say so I’ll check it out.

  3. Ok you owe me for one ER visit. Sorta.

I read the first line of your post, jumped up from the desk, hit my knee, ran down the hall and turned the corner, too sharp (ouch) ran into the living room (all the while hollerin’ The Unit, I’ll miss the Unit) hit the coffee table with my knee (yes, same knee) and fell on the couch trying to grab the remote.

Only to realize it starts in an hour.

But I’m not gonna miss it. ;-)

    Thanks for the reminder.

  4. I watched it and am disappointed. The home life (back at the ranch) stuff is so corny. Its terrible that the CO is sleeping with the sergeant’s wife. He ought to stick a .45 in his mouth and pull the trigger. He betrays his own men while they are in the field and in danger. Former 7th Group.

  5. I have to agree with Doug, that whole story line with Mac’s wife and the CO is turning me off this show in a hurry.

  6. Amen to Doug and Raging mom. What a bummer.

  7. The part with Mac’s wife didn’t thrill me - but I liked the rest of the show. I wish I hadn’t missed the first two, hope to catch them in reruns.

  8. Liked last night’s show. I’m putting up with the Boss storyline, hopefully it ends soon.

  9. I thought last night’s was the best of the episodes I’ve seen so far, but I agree with Doug that the home life stuff is corny. I certainly think the spouces of our warriors sacrafice a lot and deserve our gratitude, but I just think the story lines and acting could be better. I don’t get why some of the wives still don’t seem to understand the whole secret mission thing, and seem suprised when they are not told where their husbands are going or how long they will be gone.

The whole COL-wife of sergeant Mac thing is sickening.

I’m watching now more for entertainment and not analyzing too much. If you analyze too much you start thinking about the reality of US military acting in law enforcement functions. For those who say that is not a problem, I don’t think most governors would like the US military routinely performing operations within their state. Hence the Gov of Louisiana had to agree before the active military went in after Katrina.

Then there was the episode where the guys were somewhere I think in north Africa and they caught some high-value target and then in the plane on the way home they all fall asleep except the Top and he turns around and lets the guy jump out of the plane??!!?? They don’t have this high-value prisoner secured??!!?? Didn’t seem very realistic.

Last night’s episode was very entertaining, but one part I did not follow. How did the COL know where the head bad guy was so as to send Mac there (in the woods)? Presumably from intelligence … but if they had that intel, why not share it with the guys in LA, and why send one person in alone to take him out with no support or back-up? I must have missed something there.

  10. What does she see in that Col, anyway, when her hubby is way hot?

  11. It was a good episode indeed, but it’s interfering with Scrubs, Sons and Daughters, and House. Tuesdays are killer for me.

  12. I’m with you, Laurie! I saw the first episode, forgot about it the next two, then because of Hook’s post last night, tuned in to catch #4. I enjoy the action portions, but am really disgusted with the Col. & Mac’s wife thing. Like Anthony, I questioned how the Col. knew to send Mac ‘hunting’. I won’t get addicted to this show, but if I remember, I may tune in again occasionally.

  13. I consider myself a patriot - but I feel this war is illegal and injust. The Iraqi’s did not attack us. Our mission changed from WMD to liberators. We should bring the troops home now and spare even one more from dying for nothing.

  14. After watching the episode I was wondering just how it was that a military unit was being utilized for a domestic law enforcement issue with the supposed “white supremisist” group. Seems to me there’s something called “posse comitatus” which precludes the military from this type of activity. Quite a nice piece of propaganda there.

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
