CBS is launching a new television series on Tuesday, March 7th at 2100 hrs ET. I have had the good fortune of previewing the pilot episode of this new show titled, The Unit.

It is fantastic! A must see and I predict will quickly become the hottest show on television. The show is based on the book Inside Delta Force, written by Command Sergeant Major Eric Haney, who I understand is also a consultant on the set.

The pilot episode was more than the just action packed adventures of special operators taking out the bad guys. It delves into the relationships members of the elite unit have with one another, and their families. It is exciting and heart wrenching at the same time. I highly, highly reccommend The Unit if your Tuesday nights are free. I have two more episodes to watch, I’ll let you know how they are. Sgt Hook out.

  1. Thanks for the review Hook!

I’ve seen the promos and thought it would be a great series, now I’m sure it is with your recommendation!

‘Bout time our good guys got a good primetime slot. ;)

  2. Hook, you will be in such trouble from me if I turn my TV on to something besides news and it’s not good! Come to think of it, you prolly shouldn’t worry - I’ll never remember the day and time anyway. ;p

  3. I was soooo hoping it would be good. The previews just rocked. Yeah, it’ll be on my very limited program list! Thanks.

  4. It looks like a rrreeeaaallyy good show, so I am hoping it turns out to be as good as it promo spots. Plus it is after one of my other fav shows NCIS.

  5. I’d been debating if I’d watch or not, as I don’t really tune in to “regular programming”. I’ll take your thumbs up as a go at this station. At least for now!

  6. Hmmm - don’t watch enough tv I guess - I hadn’t heard about it. Now all I have to do is remember to watch it!

  7. I too have been able to see the first eppy…and I agree Sgt H. …Its FANTASTIK….altho I used more…colourful language in describing…but this is a family message board!

Shawn Ryan is the tour de force creater/writer of one of my favorite gritty cop shows: The Shield, which stars Michael Chiklis, who I used to work for!

Davis Guggenheim directed the first eppy - he has done some solid work on ‘24″, “The Shield” and “Numbers” “Alias” and “The Visitor”, where he worked with a client of mine, and which is where I met Davis. His work on “The Unit” is as good if not better than his work on “24″. Dennis Haysbert stars in this series…fans of “24″ will remember Dennis as “President David Palmer”. It was great to see them working together again in “The Unit”.

CSM Eric Haney is more than just a consultant - he is a part of the writing team, and a supervising producer.

The show is well written, well directed, and Brilliantly acted by some of the finest actors in Hollywood!

  8. I will put it down! I don’t watch a lot of TV, so I will give it a look.

  9. Haney is an excellent writer, and if you read his memoir, that comes through as well. It’s good to see he’s staying busy. I noticed he also did the technical advising for David Mamet’s “Spartan.”

    Thanks for the heads up.

  10. I know NCOs are generally more wired into things than us officers, but how did you get a sneak preview of this?!

    Comment by Major John — 1 March 2006 @ 1929

  11. Just one question, is it going to portray our soldiers in a favorable light? And will it tackle the deception, lies and propaganda of our current enemy? ok, two questions, ;-)

I seriously hope its good, because CBS news tried to single handedly change the outcome of an election. And recently 48 did a graphic hit job for their own purposes and now they’ve manipulated poll numbers. It pains me I must support them in any way, but I will support the show if its truly balanced.

  12. Hey sarge, just saw the 1st episode of the UNIT, and i must say, the technical advisors don’t seem to be switched on. Our super secret “D-Boys” are walking around with their faces exposed and then the team leader doesn’t even suit up. Next, they seem not to have the CQB resources of the old SWAT tv show. NO ONE would assault a crowded plane with shotguns, not to mention the leader entering solo, w/ a handgun. This is the usual pay the prop guy or pay the actors, situation. A dozen guys in grey flight suits and balaclavas, w/MP5SDs and flashbang grenades is the Textbook Op. And these guys would have been FBI! The show has some good points, like whats gonna happen to the commander when his men let alone the husband finds out he’s bangin a team members wife. That happened only once back in my day, and the banger got gangbanged, if you know what I mean. We protect our own. In a nutshell we have what they call a chick’s action flick on TV. Like Proof of Life. The guy gets to see shootouts and explosions while the girl gets romance, and betrayal, everyone happy. I’m hoping it will improve but I think i’m going back to my old standby WANTED on TNT.

  13. You people are so sad… Good guys, bad guys, the correct use of weapons. Answer me this: what makes a “good guy” a good guy?

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
