  8. Right on Target! This is something to share with the media. Rather than just complaining about the coverage, right or wrong, give them something to work with in their coverage. It doesn’t matter whether you are in Iraq or the U.S., the real warground is in the minds of the people. We need the American people to support the troops. Support reminds me of the word “respect” . Respect is a two-way street, from the bottom up and from the top down. It is a funny thing, true respect is never given, it is earned! Yes, there is some social respect which is given. But this life and death respect, you get it the old fashioned way, you earn it. If we want the people of Iraq to learn democracy, we need to get balance back into our views “Right” or “Left”. If you ask the people of the region a question, “Why do you fight?” Their answer will be, “We fight because our fathers fought.” You ask, “Well, why did they fight?” Their answer will be, “They fought just as their fathers fought and they have done this since the beginning of time.” I tend to believe, whether or not we like it, we are in this war for 10 thousand years. This is not very pretty picture. But, if we really want to win this war, we will do it by example and not just by precept. These troops on the ground shown in “Like a Rock” are in many different ways, the real warfighters in this “Global War on Terror”. There is a second issue, these are the young people who are good examples of “warfighters for the hearts and minds of the people”. They will be our teachers!
Thank you, “Grumpy Old Disabled Vet”

In view of a recent tendency to identify characters in fiction with real people, it seems proper to state that there are no real people in this volume: both the characters and their names are ficticious. The names or designations of any military units are ficticious. There are no living people nor existing military units presented in this book. -Ernest Hemingway

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
