Holiday Spirit

As the big holiday season fast approaches and we find ourselves in the spirit of giving (and shopping) I thought I’d share this wonderful idea from Glenn Beck with you. The folks over at the Glenn Beck show have teamed up with the USO and AT&T to raise money to purchase phone cards to be distributed to the Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen currently serving on the front lines of the Global War On Terror. AT&T is selling the cards to the USO at cost, each card which will provide our military men and women with 33 minutes of phone time with family back home.

The requested donation is $15.00 with any additional funds after the purchase of the phone cards going to the USO. You can donate online at the USOwebsite or by calling:

1-877-522-7000

Let me just say that there is no greater gift for our men and women currently serving in harms way than the opportunity to hear the voice of their child saying “I love you daddy” or “I miss you mommy” or a spouse saying “I love you dear and can’t wait until you come home” or a parent saying “I’m proud of you son.” You can make that gift a reality. Instead of a $15.00 secret santa gift at the office this year, why not purchase a phone card for a lonely soldier on the front lines. I encourage you to show your holiday spirit with a truly meaningful gift. Sgt Hook out.

  1. Thanks so much for the link– I went right over and donated. One thing a civilian like me lacks is knowing exactly what can be the most use to someone serving in the military. You said this will help, so I did something to make it possible. The kudos go to you!

  10. I’m home from the family dinner full of turkey, trimmings, pie and some very nice wine and poking around the blogs only to come here and be reminded of those who spent their Thanksgiving Day away from their families so I could enjoy the day with mine. In gratitude I followed your suggestion and donated so a few of those good men and women could phone home and hear the voices of their loved ones. Thanks not only for the suggestion but for being one of those men.

Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the road to hell,
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
