As part of an institution soon to be 228 years old I attend a lot of ceremonies rich with history and steeped in tradition. In fact, Mrs.Hook and I will be attending the Aviation Ball later this month and the Army’s Birthday Ball in June. The soldiers will be dressed in their Mess or Dress Blue or White uniforms complete with medals and the ladies in elegant dresses and glass slippers. There will be the Grog Ceremony, toasts to fallen comrades, and dancing into the wee hours of the evening. One can’t help but feel a swell of pride at events like these.
But today I attended a ceremony that has left me beaming with pride. Dressed in shorts and a t-shirt sporting the school logo, Andrew the Adventurous (our five-year old swashbuckler) walked across the stage to receive the kindergarten “Good Citizen Award.” Mrs. Hook and I are indeed very proud of him and I hope he continues to be a good citizen as he grows to be a man. Sgt Hook out.
